WHY IT MATTERS
The negative trends are SO obvious that there MUST be a better way to educate our young adults to prepare for their adult lives. Look at the figures: % of marriages that fail, # of people who retire with no savings, amount of credit card debt, # of people in Jail, damaged relationships, # of people stuck in dead-end jobs, and more. More importantly, the Costs of REACTING to issues AFTER they occur Far Outweigh the Costs of Preventing these issues!
SKILLS NOT TAUGHT IN SCHOOLS
We’ve done our research and the results are Crystal Clear. After consulting with multiple companies we saw trends that even highly paid and highly skilled workers in one area lacked basic skills in other areas. For example, a skilled Accountant had trouble replying clearly to a basic email. The lack of certain skills can lock you in the same job for years, while mastering our modules can launch you forward years ahead of your peers.
Almost all of us went through the same Middle School and High School education. The adult skills we use every single day from age 18 to age 80-ish are not taught in school. They aren’t even teaching the right questions or the language that adults use in their everyday lives. An idea was born!!
TEACHERS ARE HEROES!
Before we go any further, I want to make it clear: I think teachers are heroes! We come from a family of teachers and know how little they were paid for the amount of BS they put up with. It is a thankless job and most teachers do it for the love of nurturing others.
But those same teachers are handcuffed to continue to use outdated curriculum and methods. It just doesn’t work! Statistics show us far too many occurrences of people with mounting debt, depression, divorce, suicide, murder, jail time, mental illness, homelessness, loss of friends, loss of jobs, addiction, bad health, failing education, a lack of marketable skills, and approaching retirement with no savings. We see far too many failures over far too many generations to think that the current teaching model is a success.
STEM, STEAM, JUST STOP ALREADY!
We believe that just repackaging the same old tired lessons Does Not move the needle. Recall STEM was the new rage in schools with Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. We found that the lessons were just a slick new way to teach the same lessons. Then someone added the “ARTS” to STEM to create yet another tired system called STEAM.
The missing component is the long-term viability of the lesson. If I could choose between a lesson on the Quadratic Formula or time on Negotiation Skills, Financial Concepts or Relationship Building, I would give up the Quadratic Formula in a heartbeat!
